Gifted with musical talents, Andrew has written music, played guitar, clarinet, and piano. Andrew is the son of Mr. Pham Hien and Mrs. Pham Van-Nga. Andrew has gone to Betesda Christian School since kindergarten and has collected many prizes and awards in academic, fine arts (drama, School Praise band, concert band), athletic (basketball, track, and soccer) while being here. Andrew has also spent a lot of time volunteering in Texas Special Olympics events since 2003 and actively participated in many social, artistic and education projects such as the Youth Group Mission Trips, SAT Prep Class. The list of the activities he has actively participated is almost endless. Andrew has planned to continue his study in Computer Engineering at University of Texas at Dallas. Jennifer has been an active member of Gia Dinh Phat Tu Phap Quang (GDPTPQ)since at a very young age (less than 4 years old). She is still an active member of GDPTPQ and is currently teaching traditional dances at local Buddhist temples. Jennifer is the only child of her parents. Her father is Mr. Tong Khoi Chau and her mother is Mrs. Tong Luong Phuong. Jennifer plays piano and enjoys spicy (especially fishy) foods. Being elected President for her senior year, Jennifer has impressed many people with her maturiry and leadership abilities. With her 5 years working as a Vietnamese English translator, it is of a little surprise that Jennifer is very fluent in Vietnamese. Touched by the death of her two close relatives due to cancer, Jennifer has volunteered a lot of her time in doing fundraising to find the cure for cancer. In addition to that, she has also tried to find ways to help cancer victims by motivating, honoring and by showing them they are not alone in fighting this illness. She has hoped to become a pediatrician. To her, children are the foundation of our society. She has dreamed of building clinics in third world countries to treat poor people. Jennifer has planned to continue her study in Biology at University of Texas at Dallas.
Khanh Doan Hoang
Khanh-Doan had an epiphony since she was a 4 years old child: she has wanted to become a doctor and someday to build a hospital in a third world country and save lives. She considers herself “a quiet child who was slow to pick up on things”. She admits that she has never been a genius but to her, unending determination is what has led her to be where she is now. Her father is Mr. Hoang Dinh Cuong and her mother is Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kieu-Oanh. Khanh-Doan has worked very hard as a freshman and has always tried put her best foot forward in every academic activities. Being born at the end of the dragon lunar year, she possesses many strengths of a “full” dragon: determination, persistence, and passion. Khanh-Doan has actively involved in many academic and sport activities. She was the president of the National Honors Society and of the Science Club. In tennis, she has won the District and City Championship in Girls Double Tennis. Ms. Carey Christenberry, one of her advisors, has praised Khanh Doan as a person who “is busy and stressed and pulled in myriad directions, (but) everyday she smiles and goes about her work with energy and enthusiasm”. Khanh-Doan must have been a child every parent would wish to have. Khanh-Doan has planned to continue her study in Biochemistry / Pre-medicine at University of Texas at Dallas. With a passion to teach and a desire to serve, Khang has become a teacher in Catholic Religion for fourth graders and Vietnamese language class for eight graders. He has considered this activity as a way to keep in contact with the Vietnamese culture and to maintain his relationship with God. Khang has tried his best in learning Vietnamese and eventually he accomplished his goal by being able to give out a graduation speech in English and addressing his parents in Vietnamese. His family consists of Mr. Tran Khanh (father), Mrs Tran Dao (mother) and two older sisters (Phi and Vi) . As a member of the school Academic Decathlon team, Khang has always accepted challenges either in school work or extracurricular activities including UIL Academics, Varsity Soccer. Khang also enjoys the opportunity to interact and teach young children who he thinks really help to put life in perspective. Khang also spent a lot of his spare time volunteering in homeless shelters and nursing homes. To him, it is a way of giving back to the community what he has received. Khang enjoys Vietnamese food and Huong Giang is one of his favorite singers. Khang has planned to continue his study in Social Science at University of Texas at Dallas. Diana has done countless hours of community service and extracurricular activities to prepare herself for college. She won first places in several UIL science competitions. She is the daughter of Mr. Pham Huu Tien and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoang. IN addition to the taking of leadership position in many high school clubs, she co-founded a mentoring program. Diana has been very athletic. She can run for hours and do cycling like a “mad” woman (girl ?). She love pets and beside playing with her dogs every day, she has hoped to “dominate” the world with her innovation in chosen biomedical engineering field. Thuy-Vi appreciates very much her parents’ effort to make sure that their children will go to college, complete education to become a better person and to have a better life. Thuy-Vi is the oldest daughter of Mr Nguyen Khac Diep and Mrs Nguyen Ly. She would like to return the help she receives by helping other to success like her. Her favorite advice comes from one of her teachers:”… if you cannot land on the moon, at least you will land among the stars”. She has hoped to be the brightest star, to succeed not only for her but also for helping others. Thuy-Vi has planned to continue her study at Tarrant County College. Born in Hue and with an aspiration to become a dentist, Minh has tried hard to excel in high school and hoped to have the same success in college. She is the daughter of Mr Nguyen Dinh Duan and Mrs Ho Thi Hoa. Minh-Diem enjoys playing chess and participating in Asian culturing activities with her friends. She is an active member of many associations: Chess Club, Asian Club, Master Club, Mathematics Olumpiad Outstanding. Minh-Diem has planned to continue her study in Pre-dentistry at University of Texas at Dallas. Born 213 years after the birth of America, and as a July 4th baby, Huy has acquired many traits of a true ambitious Vietnamese American. Huy was captain of the UIL spelling team; Vice President and President of the French Club, and Vice President of My Alpha Theta. Huy aspired to become doctor, politician, and US senator (who knows that sometimes in the future, he may be able to do all of that). His father is Mr. Nguyen Hoai Trung and his mother is Mrs. Tran Thanh Nga. Beside those big plans, Huy enjoys playing hockey and tennis and hopes someday to be able to offer his talent as a doctor to help less fortunate people in underdeveloped countries. Huy has planned to continue his study in Biology/Biochemistry at University of Texas at Austin. An has attributed her success to her parents, Mr Tran Vinh and Mrs Lam Thanh, who haven’t been able to go beyond eight grade education, have always demanded the very best of her. According to her father, Vietnamese language has been one of her favorite subject. She enjoys bowling and tennis. An has achieved almost everything her parents would wish she does, academically. An is National Merit Scholar Finalist, AP Scholar with Honor. She has been accepted to many prestigious schools such as Stanford, Princeton, Rice, etc… She has thought herself as writer, artist, philosopher with a wish to be always happy, and one day, to leave her mark on the world. An enjoys watching Thuy Nga Paris, and Asia Entertainment DVDs, as well as Korean and Chinese movies. An has planned to continue her study in Psychology at Texas Tech University. Huong graduated from The Academy of Irving High School. With countless hours working in volunteering service for different non-profit organizations since 2004 She has worked at St Joseph’s Church where she is an assistant teacher for third grader in Vietnamese language, at Health Occupation Students of America where she has helped in screening at health fairs, participated in Alzheimer and Cancer Relay for Life, at Parkland Hospital in assisting patients in different services, at Salvation Army to help in the handing out of toys to low income families, and at Irving Teenage Center in manning a blood pressure information booth during a health fair. Huong has been praised by many of her supervisors as a “very dependable, can-do, and will-do” person and to have a “keen sense of responsibility, integrity and a wonderful attitude”. Huong has planned to pursue a career in medical research and has selected biology s her major at Southern Methodist University. Minh has been selected to be the winner of the Community Service Foundation scholarship. Minh is a double-major (Biology and Business) student at Southern Methodist University. Minh received Vietnamese Excellence Award in Community Service Award in 2006. She is an active contributing member of Minority Association for Pre-Med Students and has volunteered many of her hours to help in various service projects to benefit the Dallas Community (SPARC), in educating young Asian American students to face current issues in the community (AALEC), in assisting first year students in transiting from high school to SMU (CONNECT Mentor Program), in serving as camping counselor for children with chronic illness and major physical disabilities (Camp John Marc).
